H aka Kapa Prep aka Monograms and Manicures has been blogging this week about boots, a great blogging subject I might add! She has posted some very cute ones that I would love to scoop up this second! So it got me thinking about my boot situation (a little different type of boot but that's living in New England).
I am about 90% sure I've talked myself into getting Uggs. I've heard how comfortable they are and that they keep your feet dry and warm. Which is huge for commuting in Boston, I never thought I would break down and get a pair but this winter might be it.
But today I got to thinking about the Bean Boots, would it make more sense to get those over Uggs? Now that we're home owners I foresee a lot of shoveling in my future. I do have Columbia boots that I got my freshman year of college because my mom said I HAD TO HAVE THEM if I was going to walk around campus in the Wisconsin winters. I've worn them a handful of times but not much, they're very bulky.
I like the classic look of these and love rubber moc boot, but they are not good for tromping through the snow.

Hmm. Tough one. I broke down and bought Uggs this year and I swear I am begging everyone I know to get them. They are SO comfy and the best part is, you don't have to wear socks (and I never do anyway, so...bonus.) However. I don't think they're necessarily the best commuting boot when it's snowy/slushy/gross out. I wear them almost every day with jeans - because I'm not commuting anywhere!
I also have a pair of Bean boots that I wear to shovel snow, but that's about all I wear them for. Maybe you could get a cute pair of Hunter wellies with the heavy sock lining? Best of both worlds?
I know everyone will hate me for this but I abhor uggs; I get that they're warm and comfy but I just can't get past that I think they are ridiculous looking. I have the higher bean boot that are shearling lined that are great for commuting and shoveling and, if I ever become a christmas tree farmer I'll be all set :)
I have Uggs and LOVE them, in fact, I often refer to them as slippers that are okay to wear outside. But I never wear them when it is rainy or slushy because I don't want them to get gross. So if you want something you can wear when it's really nasty out, then go for the Bean boots.
I have Uggs and love them....they are great for realy cold days. Comfortable and keep your feet so warm. I have Bass boots for snow...keep feet warm and dry. And then Wellies for the rain!! Guess I'm a 3 boot kind of gal....hehe
If you plan on wearing them to walk in the snow/slush...go with the Bean boot. UGGs are not waterproof. You can treat them but they still aren't the best for schlepping through a New England winter.
I love my Uggs! They're so comfy and warm! I say get those!
I have those bean boots and LOVE THEM. (although, now that I think about it mine might actually be from Cabela's...whatever) Great for all the foul weather. I don't have Uggs, so I really can't comment on that front. What would I do?
GET BOTH.
Until I got my first pair of uggs this fall, I hated them. I thought they were so ugly and cliche. However, now I am hooked -- they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. No socks required! But they are not waterproof, so may not be the best for commuting....
I have Uggs, Bean boots and Hunters (what can I say - I have a shoe issue) and each serve their purpose. Uggs are incredibly warm and cozy, but if you're walking a lot there isn't a lot of structure and support. As for Bean Boots, I love that I can trudge through the calf-high slush on the sidewalks in Chicago. If your feet need a little extra warmth, check out the insulated ones. As for my Hunter wellies, they're great but I don't find that I have as much traction as I do with my Bean boots. Hope that helps!
Kimba, I have had Uggs since Oprah first talked about them on her Christmas show, about 7 or 8 years ago. I bought them at Fields and thought they were expensive but love love love them. I almost want a new pair, since mine are an older style. Meghan has a more modern pair but already wants another! We had so much snow here last winter, however, that I started wearing my Timberland hiking boots and actually love them too! You have inspired me and I think I may just order a new pair of Uggs. I love that short style in grey. They really are fabulous and really keep you warm.
Have fun!
Kimba - these Uggs are great because they do not get sloppy in the slush - not the regular style, but cozy inside like the more popular ones:

Another option is wellies with Hunter's fleece liners- very cozy and you can use them for rain or snow!

Uggs aren't waterproof! That alone is the reason why they could never be my Go To winter boot (which I am still searching for).
kimba - have you looked at Muckboots? They are great for snow, slush and rain. Santa is bringing me a pair, so I can give you more feedback next week, however think they will be great! that being said. i do love my Uggs. They are outdoor slippers!
beat boots last forever and are great. the uggs are comfy, but i don't think they are made to be worn in the snow/slush...etc. i say go for the beat boot if you want to wear a boot in lots of snow!
bean boots i meant...
Here's my two cents:
1)Uggs: warm and comfy( I wear them to drive my daughter to school in the morning), but not waterproof- if you need to walk in slushy snow. Also, ugly.
2) L.L.Bean boots: waterproof and better traction.
Good luck in your boot shopping!

My in-laws live up in your territory and every year I'd bring my LL Bean boots and my feet would still freeze. This year was the first for my Uggs and it was a big snowstorm and freezing weather and my feet stayed warm & toasty. I love my Uggs!
