I copied this from the knot.
I have finally gotten my head around the fact I am not going to really use hydrangeas and peonies. In September the cost would be over the top and I can come up with something just as nice. It will just take a little time. I am emailing back and forth with the florist to pick a Saturday that will work as she's on the Cape. After we sit down I'll have a better understanding of everything.
white bouquet of stephanotis, Akito roses, and calla lilies with pearl accents.
minus all that ribbon.
Stephanotis have a small similarity to hydrangeas, this isn't the best picture of them, but in person I think they're pretty (cheaper).
I like simple white roses for my bouquet and one rose for the boutonnieres. I am planning on having Vineyard Vines ties and I like the look of a simple rose as is. I do not have the ties picked out. But am pretty set on them being light blue to match the sashes on the bridesmaids.
I sure wish I knew more about flowers! But heck there is a whole lot i'm learing about this wedding stuff!

I love stephanotis...it is a traditional wedding flower and symbolizes something if your use it in your bouquet and the grooms boutniere. I had white roses, stephanotis and fresia...nice white filler and cheap!
Totally gorgeous. I too had to give up on a peony dream (and now I can't even remember what flowers I had in my bouquet!) but it ended up looking a lot like your photo, in August. You'll find a way to make it look lush. Photos are a great way to communicate with a florist. Best luck!
I was married in November & did have to give up peonies, but was able to use hydrangeas - but I am in the South, so that may have helped with cost. We also used hypericium (sp) berries that are seasonal and gave a touch of green to both mine & my b'maids bouquets. good luck - a good florist should be able to find alternate flowers that won't break your budget!
Now you are really a bride!
I haven't been to your blog in a long time (we moved blah blah blah..). You have come so far in planning!
I'm sorry you had to give up on hydrangeas. I had to give up on peonies. Now I just grow them at my house!
You are going to be so happy with stephanotis. It's such a classic. It's going to really look elegant in all your pictures too (b/w and color).
I know what you mean... I didn't know a darn thing about flowers when I started planning. But, it sounds like you have a beautiful plan and I love the VV ties matching the sashes. Can't wait to hear more!
I used green hydrangea for a lot of my wedding. It looks great when used with calla lilies. I had to give up on the idea of using all calla lilies -- because of the cost. Everything will look beautiful in the end!
Those will look really pretty. Such a soft, feminine look. Can't wait to see more of your ideas.
I used stephanotis in our wedding, I think it's a very pretty flower and you're right, there is a similarity to hydrangeas.
I love it! I wanted peonies for all my bridesmaids but they were way too $$$. So, I did a few in my bouquet and I'm really glad I did. There was one flower that I was supposed to have in my hair and the day of the wedding the florist called and said she couldn't get it. I don't even remember what it was...it all turns out in the end. I think I used some stephanotis is my bouquet and my hair. I used the same roses too and they were great. Good luck!
talk to your florist... work with them! We did, and you'd be amazed... as long as they are local they can help. We were Nantucket on June, and worked it. You can have amazing Hydrangeas into October... my mothers still are cutting-beautiful there today.
I wanted peonies and hydrangea too- I got married end of July and as you know peonies are long gone by then-
I ended up doing gardenias, hydrangea, stephanotis and some roses- in whites and soft creams- with tiny flecks of crystals in the stephanitis- ( I wore a Reem Acra and had a bit of embroidery so that really added a little sparkle)-
A collar of green lemon leaf around a tight circular bouquet can add a nice pop of color contrast to make a white bouquet stand out againt a white dress too. A little more of a modern edge to a tradtional bouquet.
I love seeing what you are planning- bring back such happy memories- have fun!
